The Backcountry Manifesto store sells print-on-demand merchandise produced individually by our fulfillment partner after each order is placed. Because every item is made to order, we have a focused return policy: we accept returns for defective products only, and we do not offer exchanges. The full terms are below.

What qualifies as a defective product
A product is considered defective if it arrives:
- With a printing or manufacturing flaw (smudged print, peeling design, misaligned graphic, stitching defects, holes, tears, stains)
- Damaged in transit
- Different from what was ordered (wrong size, wrong color, wrong product)
Normal variation in print placement, slight color shifts between screens and physical fabric, and the natural texture of garment-printed products are not defects.
What is not eligible for return
- Buyer's remorse: ordering the wrong size, changing your mind, or deciding the item isn't for you. Please review the size chart on each product page before ordering.
- Used or worn items, even if defective behavior emerges only after wear (we evaluate such cases individually but do not guarantee return acceptance).
- Personalized, customized, or limited-edition items, which are final sale.
How to start a return
- Contact us within 30 days of delivery at hello@backcountrymanifesto.com or via the Contact link in the site navigation.
- Include your order number, a clear photo of the issue, and a short description.
- We'll review and respond within 2–3 business days. If your return is approved, we'll send you the return mailing address.
- Ship the item back to the address we provide. Returns must be sent by mail; the customer is responsible for the return shipping label and cost. We recommend using a tracked service — we can't be responsible for returns lost in transit.
- The item must arrive in new condition: unworn, unwashed, with original tags and packaging intact.
In some cases — typically obvious manufacturing defects or shipping damage — a photo is enough for our fulfillment partner to authorize a refund without requiring the item back. We'll let you know during step 3 whether shipping the item back is necessary.
Refunds
Once the returned item arrives and passes inspection (or, if no return shipment was required, once your claim is approved), we'll process your refund within 7 days. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Your bank or card issuer may take an additional 5–10 business days to post the refund to your statement — that timing is outside our control.
There is no restocking fee. Approved refunds are for the full purchase price of the item; original shipping charges are refunded only when the return is due to our error (defect, damage, or wrong item shipped).
Lost or undelivered packages
If tracking shows the package as delivered but you can't locate it:
- Check with neighbors and your local post office or carrier.
- Wait 48 hours — late scans occasionally update.
- If it still hasn't surfaced, contact us with your order number.
If the carrier confirms the package as lost in transit, we'll ship a replacement at no cost. If the carrier confirms delivery to the address you provided and the package is later stolen from the delivery location, we may not be able to replace it free of charge, but we'll work with you on options.
Wrong shipping address
We can't recover packages sent to an address you entered incorrectly. Please double-check your shipping info at checkout. If you spot a mistake immediately after ordering, contact us right away — if production hasn't started yet, we may be able to update the address.
